Engineers are not made—they’re born! |
|
Welcome to the homepage of Mike Sweeney There is a problem with this home page. If you are using IE7 or IE8 you may not see the page links on the left hand panel. I have not been able to resolve this problem. If there are no page links visible then I advise using Firefox. The links are visible in Firefox.
The idea of having my own website grew when I was looking for alternative employment. As I was assembling it, I realised that there was more to say about my life and experiences in industry than just a CV. There are over forty years of recollections in these pages. Some of the places I have worked in are gone now, victims of the economy or accountants to whom nothing matters except the bottom line. I thought it might be interesting (at least to myself) to produce some kind of record of the places I have worked in—and the characters who shared my experiences. But a web site full of my thoughts and reminiscences would be a dull thing indeed so I have added some topics which I hope may have a wider appeal. |

I hope you enjoy browsing this site. If, by chance, you are a long-lost friend or colleague, do get in touch.

Engineering is not merely knowing and being knowledgeable, like a walking encyclopaedia; engineering is not merely analysis; engineering is not merely the possession of the capacity to get elegant solutions to non-existent engineering problems; engineering is practicing the art of the organised forcing of technological change... Engineers operate at the interface between science and society... Dean Gordon Brown |
